What are the enterprise support options for LiteLLM

LiteLLM is an open source LLM gateway maintained by BerriAI, and enterprises have three realistic support paths: self support on the open source project, LiteLLM Enterprise directly from BerriAI, or a channel partner that delivers deployment plus ongoing support. The right choice depends mostly on how much platform engineering capacity you have and how regulated your environment is.

What LiteLLM is

LiteLLM is a gateway, or proxy, that sits between your applications and model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, and Bedrock. It provides a unified API across providers plus the governance layer most enterprises are missing: virtual keys per team, budgets and rate limits, cost tracking per call, and logging. The core project is open source and can be self hosted, which is why it shows up so often in enterprise and regulated environments.

Option 1: self support on open source

You deploy the open source project yourself and rely on documentation, the community, and your own engineers. There is no license cost, and this path works well for organizations with a strong platform team that is comfortable owning upgrades, incident response, security hardening, and configuration.

The honest tradeoff: the gateway becomes production infrastructure in the critical path of every AI feature you ship. Someone has to be on call for it, keep up with releases, and answer for it in security reviews. If that ownership is not clearly staffed, self support tends to become the expensive option.

Option 2: LiteLLM Enterprise from BerriAI

BerriAI, the company behind the project, offers a commercial enterprise tier. It adds enterprise oriented features on top of the open source core and, importantly, direct support from the maintainers under commercial terms. If your team is happy to operate the deployment itself but wants a vendor relationship, an SLA, and the deepest possible product expertise, buying from BerriAI directly is the natural path. Features and terms evolve, so confirm the current offering with BerriAI.

Option 3: a channel partner for deployment plus support

The third path is working with a channel partner that deploys LiteLLM for you and supports it afterward. This model exists because many teams want the software, and often the enterprise license, but do not want to design, deploy, and operate the gateway themselves.

For regulated teams, a partner typically adds:

How to choose

A simple way to decide: if you have a strong platform team and a light regulatory burden, self support on open source is a reasonable default. If you want maintainer backed support and enterprise features and are glad to run the system yourself, go direct to BerriAI. If you are a regulated or resource constrained team that wants the gateway running in your environment with governance configured and someone accountable for it, a channel partner is the fit. These paths also combine: partners commonly deploy and support the enterprise edition.

For transparency: MobileRider Networks is a LiteLLM channel partner and an Akamai partner, so we sit in the third category. The comparison above is still the honest one, and plenty of teams are best served by the first two paths.

Frequently asked questions

Is LiteLLM free to use?

Yes, the open source core is free to self host. The cost you carry is operational: deployment, upgrades, security, and support.

What is the difference between open source and LiteLLM Enterprise?

Enterprise is BerriAI's commercial tier with additional features and direct maintainer support under commercial terms. Confirm current details with BerriAI.

What does a LiteLLM channel partner do?

Deployment in your VPC or on Akamai Cloud, governance configuration, audit readiness, and ongoing support, so your team does not operate the gateway alone.

Can LiteLLM run inside our own VPC?

Yes. It is self hosted software, which keeps prompts, logs, and keys inside your security boundary.

Not sure which path fits your team

MobileRider runs a $5,000 LLM governance and cost assessment that is funded through our Akamai partnership, so qualified regulated teams pay nothing.
